Please join us as we celebrate the formation of the Durham Farm and Food Network (DFFN)! At a community meeting held in December 2014 at Shepherd’s House Church, Durham residents decided to create a task force to design a food council to serve the Durham community. The Task Force met for a year and they are ready to present the Durham Farm and Food Network. The Task Force will share the purpose, function and structure of the new food council.

After learning about DFFN, attendees will split up into four breakout groups:  “Hunger and Justice”, “Health”, “Farming and Natural Resources”, and “Economy”. These breakout groups will mirror the working groups of DFFN (called Action Circles). Hear from Task Force members about their research into opportunities and weaknesses around these specific areas in Durham County’s food system, and participate in a facilitated discussion to identify how the Action Circle can create partnerships, develop policy, educate, and advocate for improvements in its topic area.  Participating in an Action Circle does not mean that you have made any commitment to continue meeting with this group in 2016, (although we would love it if you are interested enough to continue attending; you’ll be able to sign up to continue participating at the end of the meeting)!

The four breakout groups will become DFFN’s Action Circles. The Action Circles will meet regularly in 2016 and beyond. Durham residents are invited to join the Network, an Action Circle, or apply to be a member of the Coordinating Committee (like a Board of Directors). Applications will be available the night of the event on on the website starting in early January.

After the group work is complete, we will all come back together for a light, locally-sourced meal provided by The Durham Co-op Market.

So, please join us for this fun event to share ideas about community and food and to break bread together!
